December round up of activities

December was a wonderfully festive month at Sherburn House, filled with seasonal celebrations, shared experiences, and plenty of Christmas cheer for our residents.

The month began with Christmas crafts, as residents enjoyed creating festive tags to decorate bedrooms, Christmas trees, and gifts for loved ones. These creative sessions set the tone for a joyful and engaging run-up to Christmas.

Festive music featured heavily throughout December, including a heart-warming afternoon of carol singing with Durham University students, where residents sang along to much-loved Christmas favourites and shared memories from years gone by. Live entertainment continued with performances from Chris Gilly, festive karaoke sessions, and lively sing-along afternoons that filled the home with music, laughter, and smiles.

Residents also enjoyed a range of seasonal activities and games, including Christmas bingo, pass the parcel, festive quizzes, and classic games with a Christmas twist such as Pin the Nose on Rudolph and Roll a Snowman. These moments encouraged social interaction, friendly competition, and lots of laughter, helping to create a strong sense of community.

To balance the busy festivities, residents took time to relax and unwind with a calming sound bath session, offering a peaceful and immersive sensory experience during a bustling time of year. Festive self-care sessions also proved popular, with residents enjoying beautifully styled nails and a chance to feel extra special for the season.

One of the highlights of the month was our annual Christmas party, complete with festive food and live entertainment, followed by cosy afternoons enjoying Christmas films, pyjamas, and hot chocolate. Residents also made the most of the winter air with a festive rickshaw ride, taking in the seasonal sights around the grounds.

We ended the month on a meaningful and reflective note with a visit from the Salvation Army Band, whose traditional carols brought comfort, nostalgia, and a wonderful sense of togetherness.

December was a month full of warmth, joy, and shared celebration at Sherburn House, and we look forward to creating many more special moments together in the year ahead.
