September was a month filled with music, movement and meaningful moments across Sherburn House. From singalongs and visiting performers to gentle fitness and autumn crafts, residents enjoyed a rich mix of activities that brought energy and smiles to every lounge.

Companionship and community were at the heart of it all. Highlights included the return of favourite singer Alex Hall, toe-tapping sets from the Fine Vintage duo and a lively end-of-month performance by Chris Johns. We also welcomed Wag & Co. friendship dogs, got competitive with balloon badminton, and spent time outdoors on crisp, sunny walks.

Creativity and reflection rounded out the month. Residents arranged seasonal flowers to brighten our spaces, enjoyed calm during a restorative sound bath, and came together with families and friends for our Macmillan Coffee Afternoon. It was a wonderful celebration of connection, comfort and choice—everything we strive to offer every day at Sherburn House.

June was packed with creativity, entertainment, and community spirit. Residents enjoyed making tie-dye T-shirts, flower arrangements, and peg dolls for the Stockton & Darlington Railway 200th anniversary project. Musical highlights included performances from Chris Johns and the Blackhall Community Singers, while quizzes, bingo, and a dominoes tournament kept spirits high.

The new walking group, The Jolly Walkers, launched in style, taking advantage of the summer sunshine. Fitness Fridays featured armchair exercises and balloon badminton, while Wag & Co. brought joy with visits from their friendship dogs. Residents also shared stories during Knit & Natter sessions and enjoyed one-to-one walks and chats.

The month ended on a colourful note with Pride Bingo and a Rainbow Walk, proudly showing off the tie-dye creations.

At Sherburn House Charity, our mission to go above and beyond for our residents continues to shape every moment within our community. Here’s a warm look back at the past four months as we stepped into spring and towards summer, embracing companionship, self-care, and shared moments together.

We Listen, We Deliver

Our commitment to responding to our residents’ needs has been at the forefront of our daily work. Whether it’s a special request or a small act of kindness, we strive to meet every challenge with a smile, ensuring each resident feels seen, heard, and valued.

The Power of a Pamper

Feeling refreshed can transform a day, and our residents have been enjoying regular pamper sessions with Rachael and Katie, who visit weekly to provide hair care, companionship, and uplifting conversation. These sessions are more than a haircut; they are moments of connection and confidence that ripple positivity throughout the home. We are deeply grateful to Rachael and Katie for making these moments so special for everyone.

Embracing the Warmer Days

As the first hints of summer arrived, residents have enjoyed the chance to get outdoors, walking in the beautiful grounds and soaking up the sunshine. These opportunities for fresh air and nature continue to lift spirits, bringing a sense of freedom and peace to our days.

Celebrating Mental Health Week

During Mental Health Week, we highlighted the importance of self-care, with pampering being a comforting way to support emotional well-being. Our community recognises that looking after mental health is just as important as physical health, and these small acts of care contribute to feeling good and fostering resilience.

Spring Gathering Success

Although the weather did not fully cooperate for our recent spring gathering, it didn’t dampen the Sherburn House spirit! We came together indoors, shared delicious food, and raised £158 for the residents’ fund. We are now looking forward to making these gatherings a monthly tradition, offering everyone a regular treat to anticipate, enjoy, and build community spirit around.

Looking Ahead

As we continue into summer, we remain committed to enriching the lives of our residents through care, companionship, and community activities. Every small moment, from a walk in the sun to a chat over a haircut, forms part of the vibrant life at Sherburn House Charity.

Thank you to our staff, families, volunteers, and supporters for helping us make these moments possible.
