 Situated in the small hamlet of Sherburn House, the various types of accommodation are suitable for older people over the age of 55. The properties are nestled in the picturesque, landscaped gardens.

This exclusive development offers elegant, private living. The apartments have the benefits of country living whilst being ideally located within a five-minute drive to the local retail park at Dragon Lane.  A bus stop is located directly outside the Charity grounds, ideal for trips into Durham city centre. There is also a link 2 bus which can be booked in advance and will take residents anywhere within 5 miles of the property.

The Charity site dates back to medieval times and features grand gothic architecture and stunning expansive gardens with views from all perspectives. Residents can live independently, in a lovely community, or with the help of outside carers should they need this to enable them to stay independent in their home longer. Cleaners maintain the communal areas and there is an option for residents to have their flats cleaned at an extra charge if they wish to do so.

The gardens on the site have won awards for Best Sheltered Garden for several years in a row for outstanding beauty, being well maintained with various different types of trees and shrubs around the site, giving a peaceful atmosphere in the pleasant surroundings. Benches are situated around the site and many residents enjoy getting together and chatting or just sitting enjoying the surroundings. The grounds are planted in summer and gritted during winter.

Thornley House consists of 12 apartments, two larger flats upstairs, as well as ten flats of different sizes and layouts, downstairs, all external doors have keypad entry system with an entry code.

Ferens House consists of 6 apartments, three upstairs and three downstairs.

Each of the flats in Thornley and Ferens House, has their own lockable front door, and their own videophone, so residents can see who is at the external door from the comfort of their own home, without having to go out to let visitors or deliveries into the building.

Three beautiful 2+3 bedroomed houses (one of which could be four if dining room not used:        1 + 2 The Mews, and The Lodge.

There is a stunning four bedroomed house: Shincliffe House, which has two downstairs living rooms (or one dining room/downstairs bedroom), Four upstairs bedrooms, four bathrooms, which includes a wet room downstairs, a downstairs shower room and separate downstairs toilet, plus a garage to the rear of the property.

Two cottages one upstairs, one down: 1+2 the Cottages, 2 The Cottages has two bedrooms, 1 The Cottage has one bedroom.

Three Jenkins flats: two of which are one bedroomed and one which is two bedroomed.

All of our properties are different and give a good choice to people wishing to rent. Most of our properties are currently let but we do hold a waiting list and advertise vacancies on our website.

At Sherburn House Charity site there is a lovely sense of community, however, you can maintain as much privacy and independence as you wish.
