New residents are given the warmest welcome when they move into Beddell House Care Home. Our specialist support team spend time getting to know the likes and dislikes of every new resident to help them settle into their new home.
A holistic person-centred support plan is created which is unique to every individual. This is done in partnership with the resident and their families to ensure a “whole person” approach is taken so we fully understand each person’s life story. This includes finding about past lives, the families they raised, where they came from, what their previous career was. This helps build a picture to better understand the resident to provide tailored care, support, and activities.
We promote independence for our residents, if assistance with daily tasks such as washing, dressing, medication and personal care is required it will always be with the minimum intervention possible to maintain resident privacy, dignity and independence. Our residents make the decisions about their care and support and how it is provided. Regular reviews help us ensure that Support Plans remain relevant, and these can be changed any time at the resident’s request.
We have a close working relationship with local health care providers and have provisions to care for those residents who require minor medical assistance from our visiting GP’s and District Nurses. A full health assessment prior to take up of residency will determine what support is required to ensure we can fully meet our resident’s needs.
Residents enjoy a restaurant style dining experience, being served a variety of high-quality meals which is prepared daily and cooked on site. There are plenty of options to choose from and the menu is refreshed regularly with input from the residents to ensure every taste and specialist diets are catered for.
Food is served in our recently refurbished dining area and orangery, with views of the lawns to the front of the building. Mealtimes are an opportunity to meet with friends and socialise, however, meals can also be served in the resident’s room if they wish.
We have numerous activities and events at Beddell House which are chosen by the residents, these provide stimulating experiences which our residents thoroughly enjoy. New friendships are developed, and old friendships maintained at the many clubs and workshops that draw likeminded people together. Current examples include arts and crafts, flower arranging, reminisce sessions, chair exercise, karaoke, bingo, afternoon tea, and for animal lovers the visiting pat pony’s, rabbits, and dogs. Live singers are also very popular as are visits from our local children’s nursery.
In addition, there are quiz nights and popular games such as dominos and cards going on in the Club room and beauty sessions in the hair salon.
We also have a state-of-the-art cinema room, residents have their own Netflix account and hold regular ‘A day at the Movies’ events, complete with buckets of popcorn.
