Beddell House- CQC Good Provider
We are delighted to announce after a recent inspection of Beddell House by our regulator CQC, we have been rated as a ‘Good’ provider in all categories for being safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.
During the inspection which commenced on 23rd November 2022, CQC spoke with 5 people and 5 relatives about their experience of the care provided. They reviewed a range of records including 3 people’s care records and 4 medicine administration records, with accompanying documentation. They spoke with 9 members of staff, including the Registered Manager, Nominated Individual, Care, Kitchen and Domestic staff.
CQC’s summary of the inspection
Beddell House is a residential care home providing personal care to up to 60 older people and people living with a dementia. People are supported in one adapted building. At the time of inspection there were 55 people using the service.
People’s experience of using this service and what CQC found
People were happy at the service and said they received kind and effective support. Relatives praised staff for treating people with dignity and compassion.
Medicines were managed safely. Risks to people were assessed and managed. Staffing levels were monitored, and new staff were safely recruited. People were safeguarded from abuse. Effective infection prevention and control (IPC) systems were in place.
Staff were supported with regular training, supervision and appraisal. The premises had been effectively adapted for people’s use. People received effective support with eating and drinking. People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests. The policies and systems in the service supported this practice.
People received personalised support based on their assessed needs and choices. A range of activities were made available to help people with social engagement. The provider had an effective complaints process in place.
A wide range of audits was carried out to monitor and improve standards at the service. Feedback was sought and acted on. Staff worked in effective partnership with external professionals to help people achieve their outcomes.
