Mental Health Awareness Week 2024
This week 13th – 19th May is Mental Health Awareness Week 2024.
This year’s theme is “Moving more for our mental health”.
One of the most important things we can do to help protect our mental health is regular movement. Playing your favourite sport, shopping around town or even a short 10 minutes of brisk walking can boost our mood and increase our mental alertness and energy. Regular physical activity is known to improve our mental health, quality of life and wellbeing, it can also prevent heart disease, stroke, diabetes and breast and colon cancers.
A few small changes can make a big difference:
- Take the stairs instead of the lift (for at least part of the way).
- Get off public transport one stop earlier and walk home.
- Walk whenever it is safe to do so instead of taking the car.
- Meet with friends for a look around your local area.
- Don’t put off booking that tennis court, the bowling green, a round of golf, whatever your sport, the weather is improving!
Remember, May is all about moving more for our mental health.
