We are deeply saddened by the passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, who devoted her remarkable life to public service.
Reigning over the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth for 70 years, she remained strong and dignified in her leadership as the world changed beyond recognition over the decades.
Our thoughts are with her family and King Charles III as he takes on his new responsibility as monarch and King.

After weeks of planning, preparation and mounting excitement, the residents of Beddell House celebrated the Queens Platinum Jubilee over the weekend.
First event to mark the celebrations was to ‘Plant a tree for the Jubilee’.
‘Plant a tree for the Jubilee’ is a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.
The Himalayan Birch tree was specifically chosen to blend in with the stunning surroundings and planted on the lawn, central to all accommodation on site for everyone to enjoy. Residents from around the site came together to share this moment and was involved in the planting.
Afterwards, some residents of Beddell House sat in the sunshine and Mr & Mrs Thomson, spoke about meeting the Queen when she honoured their son Andrew with an OBE at Windsor Castle. Another resident, Mrs Chiverton was also in the company of the Queen at the garden party in Buckingham Palace grounds. Their thoughts on planting the tree were, ‘it was the least we could all do to celebrate her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee as she had devoted her life to the people of the commonwealth and the whole of the United Kingdom.’
Tanya Porthouse, Registered Manager of Beddell House Care Home said, ‘It was a lovely occasion to see the residents of Beddell House honouring the Queen on her Platinum Jubilee.’
From October, we can upload a picture of our tree to the Queen’s Green Canopy map which will show all of the trees planted in honour of the Queen to mark the occasion. We will also be ordering an official plaque when they become available in September.
The second event was held on Thursday 2nd June. Singer Sharon Cardno came to entertain our residents singing a number of popular songs our residents could dance and sing along to, finishing with the National Anthem. Both residents and staff spoke abut what a brilliant day it was!
On Friday 3rd June, a ‘street party‘ was held in the conservatory. All residents were welcomed with flags, red and blue mocktails and 50s music. Traditional Fish and Chips were served ‘in the paper’ and residents reminisced about the Queen’s time on the throne.
We would like to thank the staff team for all their hard work and the residents for making it a weekend to remember!

March has been a wonderful month we have seen the return of warmer weather, lighter nights and beautiful flowers blooming all around us. Would you like to find out what the residents of Beddell House Care Home have been up to?
International Womens Day
On the 8th March, we celebrated International Womens Day. It was a day for us to to celebrate women! To uphold their achievements, recognise the challenges they face and commemorate their cultural, political and socioeconomic achievements. The care staff held a pamper day for the ladies of Beddell House Care Home.
Nutrition and Hydration Week
Nutrition and Hydration Week commenced on 14th March. Its purpose is to bring people together to create energy, focus and fun in order to highlight and educate people on the value of food and drink in maintaining health and well being in health and social care. Good nutrition and hydration are essential for quality of life and our chefs pay special attention to create a menu that caters for all special diets and to focus on undernutrition. This means our residents always have a fantastic choice of nutritious, high quality and home cooked meals and refreshments to enjoy.
Activities
In addtion to daily activities such as bingo, quizzes, games and singing. On Saturday 19th March, the residents enjoyed a ‘Mocktails and Music’ event in the Orangery and on Sunday 20th March, it was the first official day of Spring. Some of our residents went out on a walk around the grounds and collected some daffodils to bring the outdoors in!
Wednesday 23rd March was a National Day of Reflection. Our residents and staff observed a one minute silence and dedicated it to those we have lost and to support those who are grieving. A resident of ours read out this beautiful poem:
The Rainbow Children by Gemma Peacock
The history books will talk of now,
That time the world stood still,
When every family stayed at home,
Waved out from windowsills,
At those they loved but could not hold,
Because they loved them so,
Yet, whilst they did they noticed,
All the flowers start to grow
The sun came out, they can recall,
And windows, rainbows filled,
They kicked a football in their yards,
Until the night drew in,
They walked each day but not too close,
That time the world stood still,
When people walked straight down the roads,
That once the cars did fill,
They saw that people became ill,
They knew the world was scared,
But whilst the world stood still they saw,
How much the whole world cared,
They clapped on Thursdays from their doors,
They cheered for the brave,
For people who would risk their lives,
So others could be saved,
The schools closed down, they missed their friends,
They missed their teachers so,
Their Mam’s and Dad’s helped with their work,
They helped their minds to grow,
The parents used to worry that,
As schools were put on hold,
Their children wouldn’t have the tools,
They’d need as they grew old,
But history books will talk of them,
Now adults, fully grown,
Those little boys and girls back then,
The ones who stayed at home,
They’ll tell you that they fixed this world,
Of all they would fulfil,
The Rainbow Children building dreams,
They’d dreamed whilst time stood still.
On Sunday 27th March we celebrated Mothers Day and all of the special women in our lives.
Finally, on the last day of March, in true british style, winter made a surprise return with snow laying on the ground all around the estate.

Our residents wasted no time in getting to know the two new residents of Beddell House over the weekend.
Cookie and Boo Boo the guinea pigs arrived last week and have their very own home set up in the Cinema Room.
Special thanks go to our care staff team members Dawn and Tracy, for purchasing the animals to provide Pet Therapy for our residents anytime they wish.
Pet Therapy animals offer a range of benefits for our residents:
Pet therapy is basically a guided interaction between an animal and a person. The aim of pet therapy is to help minimize anxiety, stress, and depression. It can also offer a boost in self-confidence and improve one’s social skills.” Says Pet Therapy.
